To date, all events have been *Free*, with minimal out of pocket expenses absorbed by the organizers. We hope to keep it this way. For the people who attend the events, it is a way to meet up with old friends and meet new ones. A chance to talk about plate lunches and high schools, talk some pidgin, discuss the challenges and excitement of living in the Bay Area...and for some of us, speculate how we hope to get back home to live some day. I've accepted no real commercial sponsorship (Chris at X.com covered some expenses at Jilian's) because I have no bandwidth to manage the responsibilities that go with sponsorship. Many offers and requests have come in, but I want to make sure that we keep the essence of the Bay Area Pau Hana the same - Simple, Fun and Relaxed. The Bay Area Pau Hana events have grown quite large over the past several months, attracting attention from corporate and government leaders in Hawaii. We want to help with efforts to build bridges back to Hawaii, yet provide access to information and events that serve everyone, regardless of timeline or intent to return home. Many people have been involved in getting the events organized, with the real success of the events coming from all those that attend every month. (See next page regarding Pau Hana sister groups.) |
